When Koei Tecmo and Omega Force announced Dynasty Warriors: Origins in May, they were super happy to hear from fans worldwide waiting to see the evolution of the next Dynasty Warriors title. Today, we are pleased to bring you the release date information for this title, celebrate that news, and share it with you.
An Original Protagonist Tells the Tale of the Three Kingdoms
Set in the famous period of ancient China known as the Three Kingdoms, the game stages what plays out as an ensemble dramatic masterpiece. Renowned officers join forces to battle the violent Yellow Turbans. Still, afterwards, they split apart in murky ways, reading to the profiled notion of conquering three kingdoms. So we know that certain beloved historical characters—Niubing-ren(!) For example, Cao Cao must have sweet-talked, or more likely sword-talked, their way into impinging upon other historical figures’ unfettered lives for dark and light reasons in ways that indeed expand this story of three-kingdom conquering.
We have placed a unique protagonist within the dramatized tale of the Three Kingdoms, a figure who truly role-plays the active narrative of this ancient world on the part of the player. Choosing for him, the player makes an improvisational dramatic performance as the figure partakes in the events of the story, and not always in a manner that must serve the secret as it once did, for, oh yes, dear player, the protagonist must keep a secret, one that will carry far into the future of the events of the story. And not just any secret—a secret that will help tell a story that has, until now, only been imagined within the heads of historians and playwrights.
The protagonist of our story is a martial artist with amnesia—he’s a ‘Bourne Identity’ character who, in the course of long-lost memories being revealed, meets some of the most famous (and infamous) warriors of the Three Kingdoms period. He fights alongside some and against others as he learns to make his way through a dangerous world—a world we’re hoping players unfamiliar with the period will be able to not only learn about but revel in as a part of the game’s alluring historical tale.
Combat Scenarios
When it comes to combat, there are several different setups and circumstances to choose from. Sometimes, you will be at the helm, leading a battle alone. You will be among allied officers and soldiers at other times, charging toward large enemy forces. You can bolster your efforts with Musou officers or take command of a unit with poor morale. You are the central figure in the push toward victory, and with so many strategies to choose from, it is up to you to determine the what, when, and where to act.
Superhuman Officers
The Three Kingdoms era had plenty of powerful and famous officers, not least of whom was Lu Bu (definitely don’t pursue Lu Bu!). When you battle against these near-superhuman figures, who are certainly not human regarding their strength and power, and when you lead your military and your allies in commanding officer battles, you keep your heart in your throat. There is next to no time during these sequences to mash buttons and perform incredible feats of martial valour. The characters with whom you fight share the spotlight–and the joy of overpowering tons of enemies.
Map of the Continent
Although not shown in the trailer, I wanted to highlight the existence of a map of the continent. Players can roam this map, a 3D representation of China, as they travel to various battlefields. What’s nice about the map is how it gives you a sense of the geography of the land, helping you understand where key locations are about one another. This is especially useful for players new to the setting, as the map allows for even more exploration of the sizable land now yours to conquer.
Everyone is now more well acquainted with some of the exhilarating parts of Dynasty Warriors: Origins, and we hope you take the time to watch the trailer once more (and more!) and don’t forget to wish for the game before it drops on January 17!
